World Metrology Day 2021

World Metrology Day 2021

Metrology - the science of measurement - is celebrated annually, on May 20, as the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention in 1875, a treaty that laid the foundations for a common approach and a harmonized measurement system worldwide.

The theme of this year's World Metrology Day focuses on the role of this science in protecting human health. The slogan "Measurement for Health " aims to raise awareness and draw attention to the importance of measurements in supporting the health system and using metrology experience to respond effectively to global needs in the context of the pandemic. Large-scale testing of the presence of the virus, the performance of personal protective equipment, the development of vaccines - all now highly depend on metrology.

The National Institute of Metrology of the Republic of Moldova aligns with the requirements of modern metrology and is involved, as far as possible, in activities carried out within international and European metrology organizations, in research projects in the area, to undertake good practices and contribute to the development of this science that is so important nowadays.

On the occasion of this beautiful celebration, I want to address the most sincere wishes for health, prosperity, great success in professional activity, traceable, uniform and accurate measurements to all specialists working in the field of metrology.

Respectfully,

Anatolie Melenciuc,

INM Director
